Education: Owens Park Manchester
BDP contacted Survey Systems to undertake a Topographical, Elevational and Utility Mapping Survey survey at the University of Manchester Campus. BDP have used Survey Systems and Locate on many occasions and we have built a strong relationship based on trust and cooperation.
BDP were tasked with creating a masterplan for a state-of the-art village to accommodate 3,200 students at the University of Manchester.
The concept was to replace outdated facilities; the accommodation was designed as clusters of town houses and apartments around a village green with a new student services centre, shops and a doctor’s surgery.
To advance the design of the new village beyond the feasibility phase, BDP first had to find out what buried utilities were in the ground and what impact the position of the services had on the design. As statutory records are sparse for a private site such as this BDP knew very little about how congested the below ground service infrastructure was.
Services data plotted on to the topographical survey proved a highly accurate aid to design and the creation of a workable master plan.
“…Their service is invaluable when producing ground investigation data to enable contractors to work safely, I highly recommend them.”

The survey provided vital information which informed design as the masterplan progressed
Services data from statutory undertakers and historic data is often outdated and inaccurate, survey data provided helps BDP and our clients manage risk
The Survey teams assisted BDP with other aspects of survey work such as CCTV and asset inventory throughout the project
